Summary: Bernard and Shane spend some quality time with one another and a friendship quickly forms… but what’ll Bernard and Shane do when their feelings for one another grow beyond such a label?

A/N: My first fanfiction just had to be of a role play… XD  This’ll be nice practice for fanfics to come, though.  For those of you on DA who don’t know of the rp, I’ll try to give you some prior information on the characters and such.  The setting as well. XD  So yeah…



It was midday in Suhnaza.  The large desert sun rested on it’s perch within the dust-filled blue sky.  The day was a cloudless and dry one, typical of the area.  It had been about a week since the Guardian’s party had settled within the large and walled city.  Bernard sat at a small watering basin within the city’s square, where many children gather around, splashing and playing within the shallow pools, mothers and fathers watching with quiet patience, a woman occasionally yelling at her child in some foreign language that many in the area appeared to understand.  Bernard did not, of course.  He watched it all lazily, red tunic flung off to the side.  The arrogant red-head had unwrapped his braid, letting the thin, lower parts of his hair spill over his shoulders in an unruly manner as he poured a bucket of the water over his head, letting it trail down his tanned, shirtless form. He didn’t care if the black pants were stained with moisture anyway.  

So content was the red-head that he did not even notice the blind gaze that glanced about without purpose, not particularly focused on anything; for obvious reasons of course.  Bernard couldn’t help but steal a glance at this boy, noting the familiarity, yet unknowns of the one called Shane.  He noted that Shane bore a strange outfit lacking in color(merely because Kodachii knows not the color scheme), that made his won tanned skin and dark hair stand out in a beautiful manner.  It stood out somehow, and to Bernard, he found that it looked silken.

Shane could sense the gaze upon his form, and turned in Bernard’s general direction, staring off into the distance for a moment before a knowing smile crept onto his face.  He did not speak yet, but approached the member of his party.  It had occurred to him that neither had ever truly spoken before.  Their sisters, Lumen and Sorcha, were great friends, or so they assumed anyway, seeing as the girls giggled with one another often.  They both figured that they should follow suit and at least attempt to form conversation.  It was then that Shane sat next to Bernard near that pool, closing his eyes and smiling once more.  

Bernard chuckled lightly in response, giving Shane a cocky smile that contrasted greatly with the sweet one that belonged to Shane.  He then reached for his tunic, wiping himself down with it.  

“Hey there….” Bernard started the conversation, reaching for the tie upon his wrist, intending to tie the braid up once more.  “Shane, wasn’t it…?  Nice to finally chat with you.”

“The pleasure’s all mine I suppose,” Shane replied calmly, continuing to smile, eyes open now and gazing at the other unknowingly,” and it is about time that we chatted, isn’t it?  Nice to actually meet you, Bernard.”

Conversation struck almost immediately after that, the two immediately hitting it off, finding a common factor within their sisters and their various quirks.  Other topics included the heat, Bernard’s odd hatred of Areno (that Shane couldn’t quite agree with),  Iggy’s art fascination, foods, and activities.  It was such a relief for the two.  Both were thinking the same thing, obviously: “Finally someone to talk to besides my sister.”

Shane shifted his feet upon Suhnaza’s dusty road, which made Bernard smile as he watched.  A quiet and comfortable silence filled the two’s world for a short time, before the trickling of some stray water drifted onto Bernard’s bare shoulder, fault of a stray child sloshing in the water.  It made the red-head grin immediately, taking up some water within his hand and splashing the other in a playful manner with it.  Shane was a bit thankful for the water, seeing as it had been hot,  but frowned, not enjoying the fact that some of his clothes were now wet.  Removing his own shirt now, a smile spread across Shane’s face, slightly cheerful.  Bernard thought that he could detect a bit of mischief within it, however.

The challenge began as Shane struck back with his own firing of the cool water noting that if felt nice against his heated hands.  Bernard laughed once more, firey eyes amused greatly with this form of play.  It was like that for a while, until a voice tore through their laughter abruptly.

“What on earth are you two doing?” Lumen and Sorcha asked in unison, each raising an eyebrow at their brother.  

Lumen and Shane immediately screeched, falling backwards into the pool in shock.  They hadn’t meant to be caught doing such childish things by their own little sisters.  That was embarrassing, and to make matters worse…

Bernard coughed up some water, eyes meeting a blank stare that drifted dangerously close to his own.  One of Shane’s eyes had closed in the spill, he himself not even bothering to notice the closeness of their faces, until he felt the other’s breath intermingling with his own.  Both boys blushed, faces reddening as they continued to stare at one another for a moment.  Bernard noted that they were both in a rather suggestive position, causing him to blush even more.  Shane, shaking his head to snap himself out of what felt like some form of eternal challenge.  It felt as if one was waiting for the other to break, and if that were the case, Shane had lost.  He sloshed out of the water, no longer straddling the other’s hips of course.  He climbed onto the water’s edge, unknowingly still blushing quite a bit.  

Bernard swam to the shallow pool’s edge, letting himself linger in the water, his top half the only thing visible, deciding not to show his lower region for reasons I cannot say under the current rating.

“Nothing.”
